Patricia Mainque — also known as "Patty" or "Jamie" — is a sophomore architecture and international student focused on improving how students access resources, opportunities, and support both within and beyond the university. Through her work with UDC's Office of Career Services, NASA-funded CAMSTAR, and CAUSES, she has helped connect students to opportunities and developed a strong understanding of the need for accessible support systems. Patty is committed to putting people first — building pathways and fostering a stronger sense of community so every student feels heard, supported, and empowered from orientation to graduation.
Axel is running to build a student government that takes action — not one that makes promises it can't keep. Here are his priorities for UDC.
Creating a mentorship program that partners students with professionals who share similar backgrounds and career paths — real guidance from people who get it.
Making it easier for UDC students to take courses at other DMV universities — Georgetown, GW, UMD, and more — while paying UDC tuition. Less red tape, more opportunity.
Ensuring every student knows about events and opportunities on and off campus. Plus, getting students involved in the bookstore merch design process — your campus, your voice.
Launching committees for international students, campus beautification, student services, athletics, clubs, and more — giving every community a seat at the table.
Strengthening the DEI office so students can actually access adequate resources, support, and programming that reflects the diversity of our campus.
Expanding mental health initiatives by promoting existing resources and creating new anti-stress zones and wellness rooms for students and staff alike.
Patty's platform is about making sure students feel supported, know where to find opportunities, and can move through their college experience with clarity and less stress.
Resources at UDC are often scattered across platforms and easy to miss. Patty will improve how information is organized and shared — more centralized channels, simple tools to find who to contact, and consistent updates students can count on.
Creating clear, consistent ways for students to share feedback — and making sure those concerns and ideas are actually heard and reflected in student government decisions. Transparency and responsiveness, always.
Making internships, on- and off-campus jobs, and professional opportunities more visible and accessible for all students — resident and non-resident alike. Stronger connections to alumni, professionals, and career-focused programming.
Supporting career-focused programming and skill-building opportunities so students feel more prepared and confident when taking on opportunities — and ready for what comes after graduation.
Many students balance financial stress, personal responsibilities, and limited access to food and basic resources. Patty will support peer mentorship, access to essential items, and initiatives that build belonging and community.
Progress comes from listening. Patty will prioritize transparency, organization, and communication so student government is not only visible, but genuinely responsive to the students and the university community.
